Aydın Travel Guide 2026: Where to Stay, What to Eat, What to See?

Living in Marmaris EnlightenedMy perspective on Aydın is a little different: I don't see this city as just a "stopover"; I plan my trip separately, focusing on the coast, ancient cities, the Aegean daily life in the center, and a kebab break in Ortaklar. For someone going for the first time, allocating 2 days to Aydın is quite sensible. If I want the coast, I'll stay in Kuşadası or Didim; if I'm going to focus on history, the Efeler center or the Söke route would be more practical. When I travel by bus from Marmaris to Aydın, the journey takes about 2 hours and 40 minutes, and I estimate the ticket budget to be around 350 TL.

When is the best time to visit Aydın?

I love Aydın most in the spring. In April and May, the olive groves, fig orchards, and ancient city stones create a milder climate. In summer, the Didim and Kuşadası areas are lively, but visiting ancient cities during the day can be tiring. Therefore, in July and August, I dedicate the early mornings to the sea and the cooler afternoons to open spaces like the Temple of Apollo, Priene, or Miletus.

In winter, Aydın city center, Tralleis, Nysa, and the Aphrodisias area are quieter; however, the possibility of rain should be taken into account. For the 2026 tourism season, closing times are projected to be 19.00 PM for Nysa, Magnesia, Aphrodisias, Miletus, and Priene in Aydın; and 20.00 PM for the Didim Apollo Temple.

How to get to Aydın?

Traveling from Marmaris to Aydın by private vehicle. Muğla-Yatagan-Using the Çine route is the most flexible option. The journey isn't tiring if you leave early in the morning; especially after Çine, the feeling of the Aegean plains begins. For those who want to go by bus, I find the ticket price of around 350 TL and the journey time of approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes on the Marmaris-Aydın routes realistic.

For those arriving by plane, instead of an active city passenger airport plan in Aydın, there is generally... Izmir Adnan Menderes, Denizlic Çardak, Milas-Bodrum or Dalaman The route is established via this route. Train/bus connections from Izmir to Aydın are more practical compared to coastal districts; for those going to Kuşadası and Didim, it is advisable to arrange bus connections in advance during the summer season.

Transportation within Aydın City

In Aydın, since the places to visit are far apart, "city transportation" actually falls into two categories: short trips within the Efeler city center and travel between districts. Buses are fine within the center; however, if I want to connect stops like Aphrodisias, Dilek Peninsula, Priene, Miletus, and the Didim Apollo Temple to the same trip, a private car is much more convenient for me.

I'm calculating that after May 2026, the full fare for public transportation in Aydın city will be 39 TL, and the student fare will be 26 TL. For taxis, the "boarding and alighting" cost is high even for short distances, so it's a good idea to plan your return time in advance, especially in Kuşadası and Didim.

How many days does it take to visit Aydın?

• If I have 1 days: I'd visit Efeler town center, Aydın Archaeology Museum, Tralleis, and have a kebab break in Ortaklar in the evening. If I want to go to the sea, I'll change this plan to Kuşadası + Güvercinada + Dilek Peninsula.
• If I have 2 days: I would dedicate the first day to Kuşadası, Güzelçamlı, and the Dilek Peninsula; and the second day to the Söke-Priene-Milet-Didim Apollo Temple route. This route offers both sea and history.
• If I have 3 days: It's best to dedicate the third day to Aphrodisias. The Karacasu area requires a different route from the center and the coast; but in my opinion, it's the most impressive cultural stop in Aydın.

Where to stay in Aydın?

In Aydın, I choose my accommodation based on the question, "Which part of Aydın will I visit?"

Kusadasi: This is the most convenient area for first-time visitors who want to take an evening walk by the sea and are looking for restaurant options. Prices are high in the summer; parking and crowds can be annoying.

Didim / Altınkum: It makes sense for a beach holiday, a family trip, or a longer stay. Being close to the Temple of Apollo is a big plus.

Efeler center: Tralleis is more convenient for those who want to visit the Aydın Archaeology Museum, Nysa, Magnesia, and Ortaklar route. It doesn't have a coastal atmosphere, but transportation is easy.

Güzelçamlı: For those who want to arrive at Dilek Peninsula early, this is one of my favorite quiet accommodation areas. Arriving at the national park early in the morning makes a big difference in this region.

Places to visit in Aydın

Aphrodisias Ancient City

If I had to choose just one ancient city in Aydın, I would choose Aphrodisias. This site in Karacasu was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2017; with its marble quarries, sculptural tradition, stadium, and monumental structures, it is Aydın's strongest cultural hub.

You need to allocate at least 2-3 hours here. I wouldn't go at lunchtime in the summer; the stone floor and open space make it too hot. Tralleis Ancient City

For those who want to see an ancient city without venturing too far from the center of Efeler, Tralleis is a good starting point. The city is located north of the Aydın city center, about 1 km away. I plan to visit it not for a long time, but as a 30-45 minute stopover when entering or leaving the Aydın city center.

Priene, Miletus and Didim Apollo Temples

This trio is one of my favorite day trip historical routes in Aydın. It makes sense to start from Söke and go first to Priene, then Miletus, and finally to the Didim Apollo Temple. I would budget around €4 for Priene, €6 for the Miletus Museum and Archaeological Site, and €6 for the Didim Apollo Temple.

Dilek Peninsula Büyük Menderes Delta National Park

When I go to the Kuşadası side, my target is usually Dilek Peninsula early in the morning. With its sea, bays, forest road, and Güzelçamlı exit, it's one of the best places to experience the natural side of Aydın. For 2026, I'm calculating the entrance fee as 75 TL per person, 225 TL for cars, 150 TL for motorcycles, and 450 TL for caravans.

Kusadasi and Guvercinada

Kuşadası is the most touristy part of Aydın. Here, instead of the beach during the day, I prefer evening walks, the area around the harbor, and the Güvercinada side. In summer, it's more sensible to walk from your accommodation or take a short taxi to the center instead of driving there.

Didim and Altınkum

Didim can be planned as either a solo beach holiday or a cultural break centered around the Temple of Apollo. The Altınkum area is crowded in the summer; but going to the temple after swimming in the sea in the late afternoon is a lovely Aydın classic.

1, 2 and 3-Day Trip Itineraries for Aydın

• 1-Day Aydın Itinerary: Morning breakfast in Efeler city center, followed by a visit to the Aydın Archaeology Museum and Tralleis. Lunch break with pide or shish kebab. Afternoon trip to Nysa or Magnesia. Evening shish kebab in Ortaklar.
• 2-Day Aydın Itinerary: Day 1: Kuşadası, Güvercinada, Güzelçamlı and Dilek Peninsula. Day 2: Söke-Priene-Milet-Didim Apollo Temple. This route is very comfortable with a private vehicle.
• 3-Day Aydın Itinerary: I'll dedicate the first two days to the coast and ancient cities, and on the third day I'll go to Aphrodisias. If I have time on the way back from Karacasu, it would be good to check out the local ceramics workshops.

What to eat in Aydın?

In Aydın, I think of the meal in terms of three main elements: shish kebab, pita bread, and Aegean herbs. Ortaklar shish kebab is like a roadside delicacy of Aydın; the character of it lies in the quick cooking of small pieces of meat, being eaten with lavash bread, and complemented by the onions that come with it. The Southern Aegean Promotion Portal also describes the place and serving style of Ortaklar shish kebab on the Germencik-Ortaklar route in this way.

Aydın city center is quite strong in terms of pide (Turkish flatbread). I'm calculating prices based on a range of 250 TL for minced meat pide, 300 TL for diced meat pide, 340 TL for diced meat and cheese pide, and 130 TL for lahmacun (Turkish pizza). This price range is still a good option for a simple but filling meal in the city center.

Where to Eat in Aydın? Restaurant Recommendations

• Aydın Özen Pide – Efeler: A good stop in the city center for a quick, satisfying, and classic Aydın pide break. With minced meat, diced meat, and cheese options, it's perfect for those who want to have a quick lunch.
• Ortaklar Skewered Meat – Germencik/Ortaklar: This is a must-do stop on the İzmir-Aydın route. Eating shish kebab wrapped in lavash bread with cooked onions is almost a ritual on this route. A satisfying portion should cost around 400 TL.
• Kuşadası seaside restaurants: If I want fish, meze, and a view by the sea, I won't keep the per-person bill low. In 2026, in Kuşadası, a single person in affordable restaurants would cost 250-400 TL, in mid-range restaurants 400-800 TL, and in seaside restaurants 800-1.500 TL per person seems more realistic.

What to Buy in Aydın?

On my return from Aydın, my bag mostly contains chestnut products, local jams, and village market goods, not figs, olive oil, or candied chestnuts. In Nazilli and its surroundings, figs, olive oil, and dried goods are particularly strong. In Kuşadası and Didim, however, souvenirs are more tourist-oriented; you need to carefully consider the price-quality balance.

What to do in Aydın?

In Aydın, just visiting ancient cities isn't enough. For me, one of the best combinations is swimming in the sea at Dilek Peninsula in the morning, exploring ancient cities near Söke in the afternoon, and walking around the Temple of Apollo in Didim in the evening. If I want a more local day, I'd choose the museum, market, and pide (Turkish flatbread) trio in the center of Efeler.

Nightlife in Aydın

For those seeking nightlife, Kuşadası and Didim are more popular choices than Aydın city center. Kuşadası has more bars, pubs, and live music options; Didim is lively during the summer season, but the atmosphere isn't as intense as Kuşadası. Efeler city center, on the other hand, has more cafes, taverns, and quieter dinner options.

Aydın Festivals and Events

In Aydın, the event calendar varies by district. Kuşadası stands out with its summer concerts and beach events, Didim with its summer season programs, and Efeler with its cultural and artistic events. Since hotel prices increase, especially in coastal districts, during festival periods, I don't leave reservations until the last week.

Aydın Holidays and Closings

Museum and archaeological site opening hours can vary. Entry queues can be particularly long during holidays, public holidays, and the summer season. I find it better to visit ancient cities in the morning, close to opening hours, and national parks, if possible, on a weekday or early in the morning.

Aydın Travel Budget and Current Prices

In Aydın, the best way to keep the budget down is to opt for pide/shish kebabs in the city center, and for restaurants on the coast, choose those in side streets rather than right by the sea. For Turkish citizens on the cultural route, the Museum Card offers a significant advantage; it's valid at stops such as Aphrodisias, the Aydın Archaeological Museum, Magnesia, Nysa, the Temple of Apollo, Miletus, and Priene in Aydın.

Things to Consider During a Trip to Aydın

Aydın is really hot in the summer. Leaving the ancient cities until midday will diminish the enjoyment of the trip. If I'm going to the national park by car, I'll take parking and entrance congestion into account. Finding a taxi in Kuşadası and Didim can be difficult on summer evenings. Cash is still useful in small businesses; however, card payments are common in the center and tourist areas.

For families with children, the Dilek Peninsula and the seaside of Didim are lovely; however, in open areas like Aphrodisias, a hat, water, and sunscreen are essential. For older travelers, the cobblestone streets in Priene and some other ancient cities can be tiring.

For me, Aydın isn't just "one city, one route"; it's a vast travel area that brings together different facets of the Aegean within the same province. For first-time visitors, I recommend two days: one day for Kuşadası-Dilek Peninsula, and one day for Priene-Milet-Didim Apollo Temple. If you have a strong interest in history, adding a third day for Aphrodisias would be the best decision.
