Places to Visit in Antalya: My Travel Approach and 2026 Travel Guide

Living in Marmaris, I can't just look at another coastal city and think, "Is the sea nice?" IzmirAfter experiencing the daily rhythm of a coastal city in [location not specified], the fast pace of a big city in Ankara, and the more tranquil life in Yozgat, what truly caught my attention in Antalya was the sheer number of options. Here, within the same holiday... Rome cities, waterfalls, gravel Mediterranean Bays, market streets, and long days on the beach can all be enjoyed.

I don't think it's right to plan Antalya as a single "places to visit" list. I divide the route into three parts: the city center and Kaleiçi, the historical line on the east side including Perge and Aspendos, and the sea and ancient city line on the west side including Kemer, Olympos, and Çıralı. Eyebrow, Shield, Demre And when you try to squeeze Alanya into the same trip, the holiday turns into more driving than sightseeing.

If you're visiting Antalya for the first time, two days might be enough for the city center. Adding a day to explore an ancient city or nature makes three days much more balanced. (Also includes Kaş, Demre, etc.) Belts, Side or Alanya If you want to see districts like those as well, I wouldn't usually stay for less than 5-7 days.

Places to Visit in Antalya

Old City

In Antalya city center, my starting point would definitely be Kaleiçi (Old Town). While distances increase in the rest of Antalya, being able to leave the car and explore on foot here is a great convenience. The narrow streets, old Antalya houses, small hotels, paths leading down to the harbor, and the remains of the city walls make for a lovely city walk of a few hours.

You shouldn't just rush through Kaleiçi to "see the old houses." The streets are quieter in the mornings. The bazaar gets lively in the afternoons, and the atmosphere around the harbor changes towards sunset. If I'm short on time, I combine Kaleiçi, Hadrian's Gate, Hıdırlık Tower, Karaalioğlu Park, and Mermerli into a single walk.

Hadrian's Gate

One of the most important entrances to Kaleiçi is the Hadrian's Gate. Built for Roman Emperor Hadrian's visit to Antalya in 130 AD, the gate still stands in the city center today and can be visited free of charge.

There's no need to set aside half a day for this place. It's more sensible to use it as a natural starting point for a walk through Kaleiçi (the old town). Arriving early in the morning or late afternoon will make it more comfortable in terms of both the heat and the crowds.

Mermerli Beach

If you want to explore Kaleiçi and then go for a swim in the sea in the afternoon, one of the easiest options is Mermerli Beach. Its location is undeniably beautiful, but it's no longer considered an affordable beach.

In the summer of 2026, the entrance fee per person rose to 800 TL. This fee includes a sun lounger and towel. Swimming in the sea right below Kaleiçi is expensive; if budget is a factor, I would prefer Konyaaltı over Mermerli. For those seeking a quieter and more central experience, it is still a strong option.

Konyaaltı Beach

For swimming in the city, I find Konyaaltı Beaches to be a more convenient option. Thanks to its long coastline, you're not tied to a single establishment. You don't need to pay extra beach club fees to swim in the public areas.

If I have two days in Antalya city center, I find it more balanced to spend the first day in Kaleiçi and the late afternoon of the second day in Konyaaltı. Instead of constantly visiting historical sites from 9 am to 6 pm in the Antalya heat, these beach breaks make the trip much more enjoyable.

Duden Waterfall

In Antalya, when you say "I'm going to the waterfall," it's important to know which Düden waterfall you're actually referring to. The Upper Düden Waterfall is greener, a park-like area where you can stroll around. The Lower Düden, on the other hand, is the section where the water cascades directly from the cliffs into the Mediterranean Sea, which I think is more impressive from a photographic perspective.

You can see the viewpoint of Lower Düden for free. For those with limited time in the city center, this would be my priority. As for Upper Düden, entrance fees can change periodically, so it's best not to set a fixed price.

Perge Ancient City

If I'm heading east from the city center, my first major ancient city stop is the Perge archaeological site. With its colonnaded streets, baths, agora layout, and extensive urban fabric, it's not a place you can just glance at a few wall remnants and leave.

During the summer of 2026, Perge can be visited between 08:00 and 20:00, and the ticket office closes at 19:30. Museum Card is valid. There is an important detail to note here: the Perge Ancient Theatre is closed to visitors until restoration work is complete. Therefore, I am not including the recommendation from previous travel articles to "definitely visit the theatre" in my itinerary now.

I allocate at least 1,5-2 hours to Perge. Going in the morning makes a significant difference, as there's very little shade among the stones at midday in the summer.

Aspendos Antique Theater

After Perge, it makes geographical sense to turn towards the Aspendos Ancient Theatre. When it comes to ancient theatres around Antalya, this is one of the first places I would put on my list.

Aspendos will be open during the summer of 2026 between 08:00 and 18:45, and MuseumCard is valid. Night visits are available for MuseumCard holders. Turkey An additional fee of 200 TL applies for citizens of the Republic.

It's possible to visit Perge and Aspendos on the same day. However, I wouldn't recommend squeezing in a third major ancient city, especially in July and August, as it's both hot and involves more tiring walking than you might expect.

Kurşunlu Waterfall

If you want to add some nature to your ancient city day, Kurşunlu Waterfall Nature Park is a good stop. In the summer of 2026, adult entry was around 95 TL, and student entry was around 45 TL. The park's visiting hours are also between 08:30 and 19:30 during the summer.

I wouldn't consider this place the main reason for a trip to Antalya in itself, but rather a green break added to a day around Perge.

Termessos Ancient City

Termessos is one of the ancient cities of Antalya that has the strongest connection with nature. Here, the point is not just to see the ruins, but to reach the ancient city by walking through the mountains.

Visiting hours in 2026 are 08:00-19:00. The ticket office closes at 17:00, and MuseumCard is valid.

Termessos shouldn't be thought of as an ancient city that can be explored on flat ground like Perge. Comfortable shoes, water, and a plan for warm weather are essential. If you have young children, someone with walking difficulties, or if it's a very hot day, it's more sensible to adjust your route accordingly.

Side and the Temple of Apollo

If you're staying on the eastern side of Antalya, Side is an easy choice as it combines historical sites with the sea in one place. Being able to walk from the ancient city to the beach saves time, especially on multi-day trips.

Leaving the Temple of Apollo for sunset is lovely. However, going from Antalya city center to Side and then squeezing in Alanya on the same day is unnecessary in my opinion. Although it seems close on the map, the summer traffic and stops disrupt the pace of the day.

Kemer, Phaselis, Olympos and Çıralı

The route changes completely when I move to the west of Antalya. From now on, it's less about city sightseeing and more about a day filled with a mix of sea, bays, and ancient cities.

Kemer alone isn't my main destination. It makes more sense to use Kemer as a base and continue towards Phaselis, Olympos, and Çıralı. The Olympos archaeological site will be open from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM in the summer of 2026, the ticket office closes at 8:30 PM, and the Museum Card is valid.

After swimming in the sea in Çıralı, climbing Yanartaş in the evening is a classic but still a beautiful plan. Sneakers and a flashlight will make things easier here.

Demre, Myra, St. Nicholas and Kekova

If I'm taking a longer trip west from Antalya city center, I'll dedicate a separate day to Demre. Myra Ancient CityThe St. Nicholas Museum and Kekova form a single regional route.

The St. Nicholas Museum will be open from 08:30 to 20:00 in the summer of 2026, with the last ticket issued at 19:30. The entrance fee for foreign visitors is 17 euros.

If you add the Kekova boat tour to the same day, the day becomes quite full. Therefore, it's important not to turn it into a program that starts late in the morning from Antalya city center.

Kas, Kalkan and Patara

I'm a little wary of lists that portray Kaş as just another place to visit in Antalya city center. Yes, Kaş is part of Antalya, but in terms of travel, it's a destination in its own right.

If I'm going to Kaş, I prefer to allocate at least 2 nights. Kalkan, Patara, Kaputaş, and the surrounding bays are also a natural continuation of this route. Instead of doing a 3-day trip in Antalya city center and dedicating one day to Kaş, it's much more efficient to use that day to explore Termessos or Kemer.

Alanya

The same is true for Alanya. While it might seem possible to travel from Antalya city center to Alanya and visit the castle, Kızıl Kule (Red Tower), the beach, and the surrounding area in a few hours, in my opinion, it's not a good way to travel.

It's more sensible to allocate an additional 1-2 days for Alanya. Combining two extreme locations in Antalya – Kaş in the west and Alanya in the east – in the same short holiday unnecessarily increases travel time.

A place I didn't include in my itinerary for 2026: Antalya Archaeology Museum.

The Antalya Archaeology Museum is normally one of the places in Antalya that archaeology enthusiasts shouldn't miss. However, as of August 30, 2026, the museum will be closed to visitors. The official summer visitor schedule for 2026 also lists the Antalya Museum as "closed." Therefore, I am not including the museum in any 1, 2, or 3-day itineraries at this time.

When reading old travel articles about Antalya, it's especially important to pay attention to this point. A itinerary prepared as if the museum were open can waste a significant portion of your day.

My 1, 2 and 3-Day Trip Itinerary for Antalya

I choose one of two different styles for day 3. If I want history and hiking, I go to Termessos; if I want the sea and a more relaxed pace, I go to Kemer-Phaselis. Trying both on the same day creates unnecessary rush.

City Transportation in Antalya

Trying to get everywhere in Antalya city center by car isn't my first choice. Especially around Kaleiçi, combining tram, bus, and walking is more convenient than constantly searching for parking.

In 2026, a full fare Antalyakart ride costs 42 TL, and a student fare is 20 TL. A direct payment with a bank or credit card costs 50 TL. There is also a 100 TL fee for a full-fare plastic Antalyakart. Since the more affordable Antalyakart types offer transfer advantages, it makes more sense to get a card if you're only going to use public transport for a few days.

For routes around Perge, Aspendos, Termessos, Kemer, Demre, or Kaş, using a private vehicle saves considerable time. When planning your day trip in Antalya, it's more important to consider actual driving time than mileage.

Antalya 2026 Current Price Examples

When I budget for a trip, I don't just look at hotel and food costs. Beaches, transportation, and historical sites also significantly affect daily expenses in Antalya.

Transportation fares are based on the official Antalyakart tariff, Museum Card and archaeological site information is from up-to-date museum resources, and Mermerli and Kurşunlu prices are based on current local prices for the 2026 season. It's a good idea to allow a small margin in your budget, especially for private beaches and seasonal business fees, as these can change even within a few weeks.

Where to Stay in Antalya?

If it's your first time visiting, I'd recommend the Muratpaşa and Kaleiçi areas. Being able to go out for walks in the evening and easily reach the sights in the center is a significant advantage.

If you prioritize the sea, Konyaaltı is a more logical option. If you're looking for a resort holiday, the Lara-Kundu area stands out. I see Kemer, Kaş, and Alanya not as places to commute to daily while staying in Antalya city center, but rather as separate accommodation areas.

Things I paid attention to during my trip to Antalya.

In Antalya, I don't calculate distances based on the kilometer markers on a map. Summer traffic, parking, heat, and walking time at historical sites can significantly extend the day. Especially between 12:00 and 16:00, visiting open areas like Perge and Termessos becomes even more tiring.

Another important point is old travel writings. The fact that the Antalya Archaeology Museum is closed and the Perge Theatre is under restoration is a good example of this. When preparing the 2026 itinerary, instead of directly applying "must-see" lists written a few years ago, it is necessary to check the current opening and closing status of these places.

I would visit Kaleiçi and the city center on my first trip, dedicate the second day to the Perge-Aspendos area, and for the third day, depending on my mood, I would choose Termessos or Kemer. If I was going to Kaş, I would stay in Kaş. If I was going to Alanya, I would allocate separate time for Alanya. This approach leaves more room for actually exploring Antalya, rather than consuming it like a checklist.
